Family Letters

Math instruction has changed over the years, and we sometimes don't recognize the tasks and problems our children are working with. At Todd County, it is our belief that students must learn mathematics with understanding, actively building new knowledge from experience and prior knowledge.

From a young age, your children are naturally interested in mathematical ideas. Through everyday experiences, they gradually develop a more complex set of informal ideas about numbers, patterns, shapes, quantities, data, and size. These letters, which accompany each unit your child will experience this year, are designed to familiarize you with the mathematics being studied in the classroom. There are also suggestions for providing your children with experiences at home that can be essential to building solid mathematical understanding.
